LEADING WITH PRIDE

Coach Feature of the Month - Giuliana Abruscato

Coach Giuliana Abruscato, a proud Long Island Pride alum, leads our 14U Abruscato team with energy, discipline, and a deep love for the game. She coaches alongside assistant Alex Karavais, a former Pride teammate, creating a dynamic leadership team rooted in shared experience and values. Giuliana’s journey—from standout player to Division I athlete to respected coach—embodies everything Long Island Pride stands for: excellence, integrity, and player development.

A Hauppauge High School graduate, Giuliana earned numerous honors during her playing days, including being named a 2x Newsday Long Island All-Star and earning all-conference recognition in both her sophomore and junior years. Her elite defensive skills earned her Hauppauge’s Defensive MVP title twice, underscoring her consistent performance on the field.

Giuliana began her collegiate career at Binghamton University before transferring to the University of Connecticut (UConn), where she continued to shine as a Division I athlete. Over her career at UConn, she appeared in 109 games and maintained a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage with 45 putouts, an impressive feat at any level of the game. Her time at UConn not only refined her skills as an athlete but deeply influenced her coaching approach. The Huskies’ head coach, a former player and student of legendary coach Bill Edwards, instilled the same high standards and philosophies that are the foundation of the Long Island Pride program. For Giuliana, stepping into a coaching role at Pride felt like coming full circle.

Currently pursuing her master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology at LIU, Giuliana still finds time to give back to the softball community by offering private and group training sessions at CSP in Carle Place. As the oldest of three sisters, with one playing D1 softball at Mizzou and another committed to the University of Rhode Island. It is safe to say that Giuliana comes from a family steeped in athletic excellence.

As head coach of Pride’s first-year 14U team, Giuliana holds her players to high standards while building genuine relationships. She strikes a powerful balance between being a tough, no nonsense teacher and a trusted mentor. One of her players shared, “Coach G is tough, but I love that about her. She brings out the best in us.”

Coach Giuliana Abruscato is not only shaping the next generation of athletes, she’s honoring the game that shaped her. Her legacy is already being felt throughout the Pride organization, and we’re proud to call her one of our own.

With two outs and the team down by one in the bottom of the seventh, Lexi came through with a clutch walk-off single to centerfield that drove in the winning two runs and sealed a dramatic comeback victory over Massapequa. Way to rise to the moment, Lexi!

Faith & Marcella

Archbishop Molloy - April 30, 2025

Coach ERIC and COACH DAMIAN had the privilege of attending the senior game for Faith and Marcella in Queens. It was a special moment, watching them celebrated by their school community for the incredible impact they’ve had throughout their high school careers.

Faith and Marcella were right in the heart of the action, holding down the three and four spots in the lineup, a powerful back-to-back combo that gave the opposing team no room to breathe. Both went 2-for-3 with several RBIs, playing a huge role in their team’s mercy WIN.

What stood out even more than their performance on the field were the heartfelt words shared by their varsity coaches and teammates. One theme came up over and over: Marcella and Faith are true leaders. Their leadership, dedication, and character have clearly left a lasting mark on those around them.

Earlier this week, Mal played her final collegiate game in aN Eagles uniform, but her impact is far from over. Her journey from a determined Pride athlete to a standout college player and scholar is a shining example of what it means to compete with heart, lead with humility, and pursue greatness in all areas of life.

As her mother shared, “She has poured everything into this game… it’s been a gift to watch her do what she loves at such a high level.” Mallory’s growth into a fierce competitor, a compassionate teammate, and a resilient leader has been a gift to aNYONE WHO'S watched her journey.

Her documentary filled the room with viewers and admiration.

Mallory’s story of grit, grace, and endless determination is one we’ll tell for years. She’s the epitome of what it means to be a student-athlete, and more importantly, an extraordinary human being. She has made a lasting impression on the younger girls in the Pride organization, showing them what is possible when you combine hard work, passion, and kindness.

Mallory is a legend in her own right, a true trailblazer who has paved the way for those who will follow. She has left this game better than she found it.

Thank you, Mallory. For the example you set, the lives you’ve touched, and the legacy you’ve built. You embody everything IT MEANS to be a Pride Legend And as you continue writing your next chapter, always remember this: the doors at Long Island Pride will always be open to you.
