Message from the President – May Recap
Dear Long Island Pride Family,
As the month of May comes to a close, I want to take a moment to reflect on what has been a meaningful and eventful month across our organization.
Our alumni continue to make incredible strides with their college programs, and we proudly celebrated those who graduated this spring, your accomplishments are an inspiration to the entire Pride family. For our current athletes, May was filled with standout performances with their school teams, and it’s been heartwarming to see so many of our players celebrated on and off the field.
It’s also been a month full of birthdays, and we send our best wishes to all those in our Pride community who celebrated in May.
Our 12U team has continued to dominate through their spring season as the first Pride squad to kick off the year. Over Memorial Day weekend, our 14U team launched their season with a strong start, and we’re excited for the rest of our teams to begin their journeys in the coming weeks.
This month also brought a moment of remembrance as we honored the life and legacy of our beloved Pride mom, Ana Vega Osorio. Her strength and selfless dedication continue to be felt across our organization, especially as we mark one year since her passing on May 31.
I want to personally thank all of our supporters, families, and followers for your continued belief in our mission and your unwavering support of our players. The summer season is upon us, and we’re looking forward to what lies ahead with gratitude, purpose and of course, Pride!
With appreciation,
Eric Martinez

PLAYER OF THE MONTH
MAKAYLA MARTINEZ
Makayla saved her best for when it mattered most. Exploding in the latter half of the school season, she elevated her game to an entirely new level during the playoffs and championship run. Her determination, skill, and leadership on the field were instrumental in helping St. Anthony’s secure yet another state title.
From clutch performances to game changing plays, Makayla proved to be a game changer for the Friars.

the Sophomore standout was unstoppable when it counted most, leading St. Anthony’s to its fifth consecutive state title with a clutch performance in the CHSAA state final against St. Joseph by the Sea.
Makayla came up huge at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs, including a go-ahead two-run single in the top of the seventh inning that helped seal a 6–3 state victory. Earlier in the day, she also delivered two big hits and four RBIs in a semifinal win against archbishop Molloy. Her impact was undeniable.
“It was a magical moment,” Martinez told Newsday. “Seeing all the hard work come together on the field and all the excited reactions.”
Makayla emerged as a key offensive weapon during the season, leading the Catholic League in home runs. Her power at the plate was on full display and was a difference maker throughout the playoffs. Makayla turned it up a notch since going 4-4 in game one of the league championship vs. Kellenberg, and her performance under pressure solidified her as one of the key reasons behind St. Anthony’s championship success.
In recognition of her outstanding softball achievements, academic excellence, and leadership, Makayla was honored with the prestigious Annmarie Venturini Memorial Award. She also earned All-League honors and was named to the 2025 All-Academic Team, solidifying her status as a true scholar-athlete. Makayla was also selected as one of Newsday’s Diamond Stars—a distinction given to athletes with the top accomplishments in Long Island softball.

Ana Vega Osorio

This May 31 marks one year since we lost Ana, a cherished member of the Pride family. Ana was the proud mother of Reya, a current player on our 14U Abruscato team, and a dear friend to Coach Eric and his family. Their bond began years ago through baseball and so it was only natural that Reya found her home with the Pride.
Ana was one of our program’s strongest supporters. She completely believed in Eric’s vision and the mission of the Pride. A former high school softball captain herself (a fact we only recently discovered!), Ana’s passion for the game clearly lives on through Reya.
Ana’s life was defined by service. She was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving bravely overseas in Iraq, and a 20-year NYPD veteran who protected and served her city with honor. She paid the ultimate price for her service, passing away from the rare illness Scleroderma, linked to her time in combat.
Ana was the kind of person who gave everything to others. Selfless, loyal, and full of heart. Those lucky enough to know her were made better by her presence.
We find constant reminders of her spirit in every butterfly that floats across the field, gentle signs that she’s still with us. We miss her deeply and will forever honor her legacy by taking care of her greatest Pride Reya and Raul. We love you Ana, Always!
